Croatian electronic music pioneers Ivo T Montina and Robert Grizilo aka Cortex Thrill are joined by fellow Croatian Oversound aka Alan Kranzelic on the superb 'Entities'. Since the early 90's, and for more than 3 decades, Cortex Thrill have championed their sound across Europe, gaining the affection of a nation and amassing an army of fans. Their style has evolved over the years, always finding new production techniques to squeeze out the most vibrant and dynamic sounds. Considered with legendary status here at Bonzai, we always welcome their latest creation. Oversound has been a DJ since 1995 and also became a pioneer of the Croatian House Music scene, playing at top events throughout the country. In 1998 he hosted a local radio show and in 1999 he opened the first vinyl record shop in Croatia – Oversound, from where took his artist name. We last saw him here on his debut with a solid remix on Cortex Thrill's 'Dialectical Monism' and we're delighted to see him return once again. 'Entities' takes shape as a mini album with 6 diverse grooves exploring various aspects of deep progressive and techy vibes. First up we have 'Life Form', which intros with a warm kick drum followed by a bubbling bassline and slicing hats. Snappy percussions set the rhythms loose as striking synths weave an intriguing narrative. 'Phenomena' follows, setting a more direct, upfront groove with cosmic qualities. Set on a foundation of tight beats and flurries of shuffling percussions, strong basses and cascading synths generate an energetic groove that piques interest with its intricate detail. 'Astral Form' is up next, introing with a subdued kick drum which is joined by creative percussions that set the tone for the groove. The track takes on a mysterious persona with cinematic pads and emotive arpeggios taking us on a journey. Warm, caressing basses add depth while stark synth stabs and sequences add contrast. 'Terraforming' takes us past the midway point, generating a trippy, infectious mover filled with subtle melodies and gritty synth work. The track builds beautifully, with a high-pitched melody at the core of the groove, enchanting the mind and drawing us deeper into its grasp. The penultimate 'Gotterdammerung' ramps up the energy with a powerful, driving construction made up of chunky beats, Gregorian voices and edgy basses. Bright and melodic synths pave the way for an emotive journey as more inviting voices come through. A solid groove that will not disappoint. The Club Mix of 'Phenomena' rounds out the release, delivering a smooth, proggy groove that will keep the dancefloor moving. Nice and chunky beats with rhythmic percussions set the tone as deep, bubbling basses shore up the low-end. Distant melodic arps ebb and flow as the main riff enchants. A rich and vibrant number for the late-night sessions, not to be missed.
