Another quadruple shot of Kiko brilliance rounds out 2023 on a high. Kiko's contributions to Watergate Record thus far have been absolute treat; from his team up with POPOF to craft the excellent 'Night Sky', to his solo EP debut on the imprint with 'Data Entry', which saw the legendary Hacker make his label debut with us, the respected French artist has always brought his A-Game (and his finest French compatriots) whenever he's stepped up to the Oberbaumbrücke plate. His latest offering 'Expansion' is no exception. The title track is Kiko on the solo tip and begins as a funky filtered electro jam, before waves of silky chords transport the cut into uplifting dancefloor territory. Mainstay French artist Olivier Giacomotto joins for 'Deca', a sleek and punchy slice of progressive that builds to a climax via a succession of powerful bass stabs that fizz in the background. 'Serial' sees Kiko go unaccompanied again for a straight up fire track that melts progressive and electro influences into a fireballs of driving rhythms, while a succulent melody line gives the track plenty of warmth. The iconic David Carretta makes his Watergate Records debut and adds his remix touch to 'Expansion', re working the EP's title track into a dreamy late-night burner, while still keeping the essence of the original as Kiko's chords dance atop Carretta's crushing minimalist drums.
