Astral Records continues a strong summer season by showcasing a collaborative EP from Nick Matthew and Voices of Valley. Formed in 2017 by Greek artists Valantis Likostratis and George Triantafyllakis, Voices of Valley have achieved measurable success in relatively short order. Their dark, ethereal take on techno has won over the genre's tastemakers and landed them releases on BeatFreak, KATERMUKKE, Steyoyoke, Three Hands and Us and Them Records. Previously known as Silent Progress, Greek artist Nikos Mattheou created the Nick Matthew alias as an avenue to explore the astral realms of modern techno music. Paired with fellow countryman Voices of Valley, the trio's debut would come earlier this year courtesy of Three Hands Records, a release which would see Nick go to headline the 'Roundish 01' collection via Toto Chiavetta's Borders of Light imprint. Now, combining their talents once again, Nick and Voices of Valley land on Astral Records with a two track showcase entitled 'Voce Interna'. Title track 'Voce Interna' finds the trio masterfully synthesizing their talents into one contemporary dancefloor vision. Remarkably powerful, its punchy groove commands attention, moving through rolling contours and rhythmic pulses, while vocal chants and cosmic arps add further colour leading into the main break. Adding a tension-filled slant to the narrative, the interlude melts down to an array of cosmic audio, as percolating arps and bending effects ring out in timeless suspension, onwards to an epic finale. The companion piece 'Return Of The Anunnaki' finds the trio crafting a sleeker, more hypnotic creation. Striking tonal clusters and fiery percussion descend over a pacey groove while acid motifs steal the air. Coming to full fruition across the break, a chanting vocal narrative takes centrestage, peaking anticipation as the epic lead theme sparks a powerful drop and spine-tingling finale.
